Editor’s note: Gary Horlacher began surveys and studies of gay Mormons as a graduate student at BYU. He could not complete it as his dissertation project there, took the topic up again as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Southern California, and described his work to Affirmation last year.
To those who have been following the HAHRM (Homosexuality among Highly Religious Mormons) study research and results blogs on this site, I want to thank you for reading and for the Affirmation site administrators for hosting these initial study results. The results of the study are continuing to be posted but they have been moved to the following website: http://ldsresources.info/professionals/hahrmstudy/
The two reports which were posted on this website have been posted on this new website, along with the other five introductory analysis reports. In the next week or so, three more reports will be added providing a review of 11 studies about Gay-Mormon topics in the social sciences (conflicting identities, reparative/change therapy, & social-spiritual needs of LDS-homosexuals).
Thanks to Affirmation for encouragement with this project and all who shared their perspectives with the HAHRM study in 2003 and 2007. I look forward to continuing to learn and understand these perspectives on deeper levels. It has been a beautiful journey of discovery for me and I am glad to have shared part of the journey with you through this blogging website. All my best to everyone from all perspectives!
Gary
