Help us reach out fundraising goal of $10K!
July 31 – August 3
In Affirmation and the LGBT Mormon community, things are changing for the better
by Sam Noble
Dear LGBTQ Latter-day Saints and Friends:
My name is Sam Noble. I joined Affirmation less than one year ago and have already stood in amazement at what’s been accomplished within just these few months. Groundbreaking meetings have occurred. New groups and friendships have been formed. Important, potentially life-saving information has been compiled and distributed. Hearts and minds are being healed. LDS from across the world have contacted us to become involved.
Thousands have been touched as they’ve read and heard the experiences of LGBTQ Mormons and allies. Individuals with whom I haven’t spoken in years or have never discussed this issue have told me how grateful they are for an Affirmation blog posting they read. The status quo on this issue within the church – of both its leaders and members – is progressing. My grandma told me just last week that she now refers her ward members and investigators to Affirmation’s website when they have LGBTQ/faith questions.
We are part of a truly great work. Things are changing for the better.
First, if you’ve given or are giving any of your time, talents, or money to support Affirmation and the LDS LGBTQ community, THANK YOU! What has been happening is a direct result of that. Secondly, we want this work to continue! This message comes as an invitation to a fundraising challenge from some generous Affirmation donors.
In order for us to continue expanding the scope of our work, we are asking you to help us raise $10,000 by August 31, 2013. We are 1/3 of the way there. If we meet this challenge goal, some generous friends of Affirmation have committed to give an additional $5,000!!!
What will your donation make possible? As you may already know, the scope of the reach of our work is widening. Our international reach is expanding and more scholarships are being offered to our annual conference. We are involving straight allies along with a growing number of LGBT Mormons who are seeking information and advice on how to reconcile their sexuality with their faith. While some in our group have long understood and become comfortable with their place in Creation, all of us – whether active, inactive or ex-Mormon – appreciate the warmth and support of friends and “family” we find in Affirmation.
Please visit our donation page to show your support today. Invite your friends and family members to donate as well. Any amount will help us meet this goal and help fund Affirmation’s increasingly bright future, making an impact on the lives of LGBTQ Mormons, families, friends, and church leaders worldwide. Donating $25 ($15 for students) will allow you to receive Affirmation member benefits.
Also, visit our conference website to learn more about this year’s historic annual conference and to register. Receive a discount on conference when you renew your membership at the same time.
If you are looking for ways to connect with a LGBT Mormon group locally or via Facebook, want to receive our newsletters, or participate in an upcoming group teleconference with other LGBT Mormons, families and friends, please contact Todd Richardson at todd.richardson (at) affirmation (dot) org. If you have an interest in being involved in international leadership team initiatives, contact Randall Thacker at randall (at) affirmation (dot) org.
Thank you in advance for your contribution and involvement.
